What is unconditional love? How do you know if you are loved unconditionally? To love unconditionally is to love without expectations or judgements. The best example of this is the unconditional love of Mother Nature. She bestowes her bounty on everyone without making distinction of race, religion, colour or country of origin. She asks for nothing in return. Look at the trees and plants in this painting. They not only add beauty to our world, they also give us shade and food. The river gives us the most essential of human needs, i.e. water, while it adds beauty and serenity to our surroundings. The flowers impart beauty, fragrance and fruits and give seeds which continue the endless cycle of giving unconditionally.

How do you express unconditional love visually? That was the challenge of creating this painting. I chose to use the metaphor of trees, river and flowers to express this notion of unconditional love. The tree branches spread beyond the paper. That is the unconditional love which extends without limits. The trees give their fruits to us without asking for anything in return, without making judgement whether the recipient is worthy or unworthy. Peering through the background of trees, and flowing water is a serene, smiling face. It is like the divine presence that exists in all living beings, all around us.
