On the Wings of Hope

'On the Wings of Hope' is a series of paintings focusing on the theme of remaining hopeful. Hope is quintessential to human existence. When we face challenges and feel discouraged, it is hope that gives us the reason to continue our efforts.

My solo exhibition, ‘On the Wings of Hope’ is currently taking place at the Shediac Multipurpose Centre. It will run for the months of November and December. The artworks displayed in this exhibition have been in the making for the past 3-4 years.

You will see many of the works in this series on this website. The stories behind the creation give you an idea of the message being communicated.  Purchase any of these works that resonate with you.

The theme of this exhibition is, ‘On theWings of Hope’. Hope is quintessential to human existence. It is the fuel that propels us towards accomplishing our goals despite being faced by hurdles.Challenges and struggles are a normal part of everyone’s life. How do we survive the failures and disappointments? Hope for a better tomorrow gives us the courage to deal with the challenges of today. I don't know of anyone who hasn't faced difficult times in life. Many of the paintings in this exhibition give a sense of hope in troubled times. Some paintings invite reflection on the part of the viewer about the challenges immigrants face when they immigrate to a new country, leaving behind all their loved ones and all that was dear to them.

The feature piece of this exhibition is,‘Planting Hope’. In this painting sunflower seeds symbolize hope and optimism.Hope can be planted through words of encouragement and small gestures of support.  When I get discouraged, some positive comments about my work or someone sharing my post on FaceBook gives me that sense of hope to continue creating art.

When I painted this painting, there were many disturbing news events, floods, fires, indiscriminate shootings, friends passing away etc. I was feeling discouraged. I wanted to focus on the positives in life. Therefore, I chose the theme of planting hope. As human beings we can plant seeds of hope through our words and actions.  The sunflower seeds symbolize optimism and hope. One sunflower seed turns into a plant and then gives multiple flowers, which in turn give an abundance of seeds. Thus, begins the cycle of hope. The same is true of human beings. As we plant seeds of hope, we work towards abetter tomorrow for all.

Sackville Blog 5

How do I depict a group of settlers that lived here in the 17th and 18th century? Representing the Acadians proved to be quite challenging. I couldn’t find images that would tell the story of Acadians and depict their existence in the Tantramar area. There are some paintings by some artists, but not actual photographs.
