The story Behind

Black and bronze were prominent colours in sculptures in Egypt.
The rich fertile soil of the Nile river is black. This is what nourished and sustained the Egyptians. This black soil is considered a symbol of fertility, life, resurrection.
Black marble was used to make statues of deities, to honour them. The Egyptian god of afterlife, Osiris, is depicted in statues made of black marble.
