Panning for Gold

CA$ 750.00 CAD

This triptych consists of three abstract mixed media paintings. The colours, shapes, patterns, and reflections reminded me of the time when I was in Alaska panning for gold. Yes, there was a lot of sand to sift through to find just a few flakes of gold. These paintings made me think that this is what happens in real life. We pan for gold everyday. We do a lot of difficult and labour intensive things to attain something valuable, such as, happiness, a comfortable lifestyle etc. When you look at this painting, you will find many layers of textures, and colours. The various colours and the gold paint dance and shimmer through the coolness of water or roughness of rocks or sand giving a sense of hopefulness of finding gold. The beauty of this triptych is that it can be displayed horizontally or vertically. It would sparkle in a small narrow space.

The Story Behind

"Because you know resilience - if you think of it in terms of Gold Rush, then you'd be pretty depressed by now because the last nugget of gold would be gone. But the good thing is with innovation, there isn't a last nugget. Every new thing creates two new questions, and two new opportunities." Jeff Bezos

Jeff Bezos has explained what panning for gold is in today's context. It isn't the gold metal that one is looking for. It is the opportunities, the chance to create something unique, beautiful, profitable.

For me, panning for gold is also about looking for good within and without. There is gold within us and around us. It is a matter of digging through the dirt and finding it, nurturing it and treasuring it.
