Each year I eagerly await to see the sandpipers at Johnson's Mills. They arrive by the thousands. Upwards of 100,000 have been sighted. This phenomena is indeed a miracle of Nature. These tiny shore birds, called Sandpipers, arrive from the Arctic and stay at Johnson's Mills for 2-3 weeks. Here they feed voraciously on mud-dwelling creatures. They double their body weight as they prepare to undertake the extraordinary 72 hour long non-stop journey to South America.
I marvel at these birds, their strength, resilience, their planning and preparedness. These are the lessons we need to learn from these birds.
