Bog Net

This bog net, displayed in Musée Acadien, is an actual fishing net used by Acadian fishermen in the past.

It is symbolic of the lifestyle of Acadians, who made their living primarily by fishing or farming.

The Acadians are well-recognized in the history for their contribution of building the dykes and reclaiming the marshes.

Besides this, they recognized the rich resources the sea offered them. They fished for salmon, cod, smelt, herring, mackerel, eels and various other species of fish.

The Acadians were very hardworking people. Many families kept boats for fishing. They used hooks, lines, nets, and spears. They created weirs to trap the fish.
