Morice's Mill Pond

Acadian settlers had built a dam in the 1700s at this location which later became Morice's Mill Pond. Planters from New England took over the site and established a number of mills there. The original postcard features Morice's Mill Pond.  John Morice acquired the controlling interest in the dam, the mill pond, and mills in 1821. The original saw mill buildings are no longer there. They served an important function for the shipbuilding industry. There used to be a carding and grist mill, carpenter's shop, boathouse and ice house at this location. Families would organize picnics at this location. Today it is known as Silver Lake.
