Snow Shoes

Snow shoes were used by indigenous people of the Tantramar area.

They were used by Mi'kmaq to facilitate traveling over snow and hunting during winter. They used them for stalking game, such as, caribou, and moose etc.

The snowshes were helpful in monitoring the traps.

The typical snowshoes were made with a curved wooden frame and animal hide stretched over it. They were tied to the foot and ankle with straps.
