Each year sandpipers fly from the Arctic to Johnson's Mills near Dorchester, New Brunswick. They make a vital pit stop here for 2-3 weeks. During this time they double their weight by feeding on various creatures in the Fundy mudflats, in preparation for their a non-stop 72 hour flight to South America. It's an example of endurance, determination, resilience and preparation.

"Success is where preparation and opportunity meet." - Bobby Unser
I live close to Johnson's Mills where the sandpipers come annually in large flocks. Even up to 100,000 birds were spotted according to the CBC news article, '100,000 shorebirds spotted in 1 day at Johnson's Mills Shorebird Reserve'.
It's an incredible sight watching these birds fly by the hundreds. It's like a large dark cloud drifting away.
The biggest lessons to learn from these birds are that of planning and preparedness. Success in life and in work depends on planning and preparation.
Each time I watch these birds I am in awe. I marvel about their wisdom to spend three weeks at Johnson’s Mills to prepare for the long journey. Their strong resolve is worth emulating. It is incredible how these tiny little birds push the limits of their strength, and endurance to undertake the 72 hour non-stop flight.
This painting attempts to capture this amazing phenomena of Nature that occurs annually in our area.
