The Story Behind

Woman Defined

Every time I create a work of art, it is like a problem solving exercise. For this painting, I had to think hard as to how I would depict all the wonderful qualities of a woman in one single painting.

This painting shows the woman at the centre of creation. She is at the centre of her family. In fact, she is the glue that holds the family together. Click here to see the short video that gives explanation about this painting.

In the middle of the painting, you see a symbol of 'Om', which is a symbol of divinity. She is divinity personified. The light of her soul lights up the world around her. She has the planning and endurance of a bird that flies thousand of kilometres non stop to accomplish her mission. She is passionate about what matters to her. She is abundance and prosperity. Like a flower she brings the beauty and fragrance inlife. She is gentle like a flower and yet she has the strength and resolve to overcome mountains of challenges. She is the life-giving and life-sustaining source like water. Her hands shape the future. She sacrifices her all for her family because that is what she lives for. But that is not where it ends. Her kindness, love and compassion are the beauty of her soul that draws in everyone in her circle of life.

For me, if there was one woman who embodied all of these qualities, that was my mother. She is largely responsible for shaping me into the person that I am today.
