The Story Behind

Based on a true story, this print is a part of the series, "Lessons Learned from Six-year Olds". Each piece is hand-printed by the artist.

One day we were at my grandson, Sohun's basketball game. My six-year old granddaughter, Shaela, was just learning to play basketball.

In between periods or changing of players, there are usually a couple of minutes when the court is free.

Shaela would immediately grab a ball and start dribbling and shooting. She doesn't have a second to waste. While the game was going on, she would watch but what she really looked forward to was the chance to dribble in between periods.

It wasn't long after that day that Shaela scored her first basket.

Her behaviour reminded me of what my father used to say about not wasting time. He would say, "A minute costs 100,000 rupees". Any time that is wasted is gone forever.

As adults so many times we are waiting for a phone call, for the tea kettle to boil, for a friend to arrive etc. etc. Are we putting the moinutes we spend waiting to good use like Shaela?

Small snippets of time used productively all add up.
