Cenotaph

The Sackville Cenotaph was erected in the Memorial Park at the corner of Bridge and Weldon Street in 1922.

Originally this green space was created in 1910 as a public park. With the addition of the cenotaph, it became the Memorial Park. The cenotaph was created to honour the 35 soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the first World War. Their names are inscribed at the bottom on all four sides.

A bronze plaque was added after the second World War to honour the 35 soldiers who sacrificed their lives.

Another small plaque was added for the war heroes of Korean War. Every year Remembrance Day parade ends here with the laying of wreaths and other ceremonies.
