Mel's Tea Room

Mel's Tea Room, located at 17 Bridge Street in downtown Sackville, is designated as a historical place because of its unique architecture and for its role in the community.

It was originally built in 1913 for Charles Walter Cahill and became known as the Cahill Block.

It is a two storey Classical Revival style building with brick and sandstone facade. Its distinctive features are, a large display window, recessed doorway, green Carrera glass and a neon sign. These unique characteristics date it back to the Art Moderne period.

It was originally built in 1913. Later during 1940s it was relocated and renovations were done.

In 1945 a neon sign and Carrera glass were added. Twenty one booths built in the Maritimes and 12 stools along with a long soda fountain were installed, which remained in place till its closure in October 2022.
