Join us in welcoming Putting Down Roots to the gallery, from March 5 to April 30, 2022.

Putting Down Roots, curated by AX volunteer and professional artist Bonny Hill, features New Brunswick visual artists Melanie Craig-Hansford, Helga Lobb, Fabiola Martinez, and Indu Varma. Their work is distinct and deeply personal, yet reflects a shared experience of choosing to make a life in New Brunswick.

There will be a free online artists’ talk on April 2 at 2:00 p.m., hosted by Bonny Hill, where the artists will discuss their work and take questions from the audience. Email info@axartscentre.ca for the Zoom link.

How do I depict a group of settlers that lived here in the 17th and 18th century? Representing the Acadians proved to be quite challenging. I couldn’t find images that would tell the story of Acadians and depict their existence in the Tantramar area. There are some paintings by some artists, but not actual photographs.
